Secrets To Catching More Trout

Secrets To Catching More Trout
By Trevor Kugler

In this article I’m going to reveal some secrets to catching more trout. These trout fishing tips were taught to me by my fishing mentor who was the best trout angler I’ve since known. This man was able to catch trophy trout out of water that no one believed fish of that size swam in.

He was truly a ‘one of a kind’ angler, and I feel blessed to have known him. These secrets come directly from this man, and now you have the opportunity to learn them by simply reading a five minute article. Not a bad deal, by any stretch of the imagination.

I remember a quote from my favorite movie A River Runs Through It (even though I’m not a flea flicker and don’t advocate such things) where the reverend Mclean is said to have stated, "anyone who does not know how to catch a fish should be able to disgrace that fish by catching it".

"And it’s dead easy to learn. Read on to discover how the skills and methods used by Hunters are astonishingly effective for catching fish. You really can catch a bag full on every trip!"

Ever since I heard that quote for than 15 years ago it has stuck with me, and I couldn’t agree more. I’m sure that my fishing mentor would have felt the same way as well. My point is that these secrets to catch more trout will not only help you catch more fish, but they will more importantly help you to avoid disgracing any trout.

Now let’s get down to business, shall we? The first secret to catching more trout is to understand that trout have very sensitive eyesight and can detect unnatural things in their environment easily. This means that making sudden movement, wearing "loud" colors, casting a shadow on your fishing area, or using line that’s too heavy will cost you bites. Keep these simple things mind when trout fishing, with an emphasis on your fishing line.

Using fishing line that’s too heavy is a big mistake for many trout anglers. My mentor believed in using four pound test line, which is the "rule of thumb" I personally live by. When trout fishing in normal trout fishing situations the bottom line is that any line over six pound test is overkill. Light line, such as four pound test, is much stronger than most anglers realize. Consider the fact that my mentor, and now me personally, regularly hook and land trout in the 18 to 23 inch range.

The next secret to catching more trout is to make sure that you’re fishing at the best times. There are some times of the day, week, and month that are better than others for fishing. These times normally revolve around the weather and moon. These two forces of Mother Nature have as much to do with your fishing success or failure as any single factor. This is why familiarizing yourself with the ways in which the weather and moon impact fishing is an incredibly helpful trout fishing secret. This information will make you a much more successful trout angler.

The last, and possibly most important secret, is to present you bait in the most natural way possible. This is especially true when fishing with live worms and the way to remedy this problem is to use gang hooks.

Gang hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem which enable live worms to be presented in a natural manner, stretched out the way god intended. This secret will result in many more bites. Presenting your live worms in a natural manner makes all the difference in the world.
