Humminbird 383C Combo Fish Finder
Iain Loveman The Humminbird 383C Fish Finder is packaged as an all in one fish finder for pros or recreational anglers. It offers incredible ease of use and GPS chartplotting. The 383c Combo is compact with full built-in capabilities and the ability to add advanced accessories, making it perfect for your fishing outings.

I have had quite a few outings with my Humminbird 383C Combo since I bought it back in Jan 2008 and I must say I am quite impressed with what I have seen. I purchased it the day before going for a trip to Callander Bay located near North Bay, Ontario.

In fact I never got the fish finder completely together until later.

It came from the factory with a day's charge and it was recommended to use the fishfinder til' it shuts itself down which is about 10 volts.

The installation manual recommends a 8 hour continuous charge to fully charge the battery and it may last upwards of 16 hours depending on conditions.

I set the fish finder up in 200/83 khz Split Sonar View so I could see the pickerel coming in and then centering themselves under the hole in the icehut.

The color screen was nice and after playing with a few of the advanced settings the fish finder was setup more to my liking.

We did manage to get our limit for the short side of slot size and one of the other fisherman managed to pull one in on the long side of the slot size. It did take us all day, but it was cold and windy and it was a rented hut so we didn't get to do much moving around.

Lake Simcoe Whitefishing I have used the fish finder about a half dozen times since then on Lake Simcoe off of Georgina Island in 70 to 80 feet of water looking for Whitefish and have yet to be skunked.

The only real problem I have seen so far is that if the fish finder does not have the transducer hooked up when you turn it on it goes into simulation mode. The GPS does work and you can view your waypoints and can use it for various functions but it would be nice to work with it in real time.

The fish finder is lightweight, compact and has a nice carrying case. It actual fits inside my Browning hiker backpack which I never leave without. The season is almost over for fishing on Lake Simcoe, only 1 day left, so I am going out with my buddy tomorrow to see if I can catch my limit. I also hear there is a small derby going on with a $5 entrance fee for the biggest Whitefish and Trout.
